Overview

The Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) implements the European Accessibility Act (EAA) in Germany and requires providers of digital products and services to meet accessibility standards by June 28, 2025. This article explains how to make your community on coapp compliant with BFSG.

Note: coapp is continuously improving accessibility across the platform. Many core features are already accessible, but not all areas are fully barrier-free yet.

1. Accessibility features in coapp

coapp offers the following accessibility features:

  • Keyboard navigation and screen reader compatibility

  • Design structure aligned with WCAG 2.1 AA

  • Responsive and high-contrast user interface

  • ARIA labels and semantic HTML for assistive technologies

  • Data hosting in ISO/IEC 27001-certified data centers in the EU (AWS)

All white-label versions of the platform inherit these accessibility features automatically.

2. What you need to provide as a community operator

To achieve full BFSG compliance, you should:

a. Publish an accessibility statement

Use official templates and recommendations, such as:

b. Provide a feedback channel for accessibility

Enable users to report accessibility issues through:

  • A contact form

  • A dedicated email address

  • A feedback feature within the platform

c. Review external integrations

If you use tools like Stripe, Zapier, or other embeds, make sure they are accessible and mention this in your statement.

Note: coapp uses Stripe Checkout in some areas for payment processing. Stripe is responsible for the accessibility of those components.

3. Support and consultation

If you are on a Business or Enterprise plan, we offer support with:

  • Accessibility checks of your platform

  • Customizing accessibility statements

  • Integrating feedback channels
